Where can laser hair removal be used?

Laser hair removal treatments can be done anywhere on the body, thanks to our versatile handpieces! The most common areas for laser hair removal are the legs, armpits, upper lip, chin, and along your bikini line.

How does laser hair removal work?

We currently have two options for laser hair removal: Intense Pulsed Light treatments from our Viora machine or radiofrequency treatments by the EmpowerRF platform. In both cases, we utilize handpieces that emit high energy light to remove unwanted hair by penetrating deep within your skin without damaging it. The light, once it reaches the pigment in your hair, is converted to heat and destroys the hair follicles. By damaging the follicle at this level, we are able to delay or completely prevent future hair growth.

Are there any risks for laser hair removal?

The risk associated with laser hair removal is very low, but does vary depending on your skin type, the color of your skin, and how closely you follow the pre- and post-treatment instructions. The two most common side effects of laser hair removal are skin irritation in the form of mild discomfort, redness, and swelling, and pigment changes. Surface level skin irritation should subside within a few hours of treatment, while changes in the pigment of your skin may be temporary or permanent.

In rare cases, laser hair removal can cause changes in the texture of your skin such as blisters, crusting, or scarring. Due to the possibility of severe eye damage, laser hair removal is not recommended for your eyelids or eyebrows.

What can I expect from my laser hair removal treatment appointments?

Your first appointment in your laser hair removal treatment process should be a consultation with our knowledgeable, professional providers. At your consultation appointment, you will discuss your cosmetic goals and your medical history, particularly pertaining to any possible history of skin disorders, scarring, or previous hair removal treatments. Your provider will discuss the risks, benefits, and possible outcomes of laser hair removal with you and help you set realistic expectations for this service. Your provider may ask to take before-and-after photos of the treated area.

Your second appointment will be your first actual laser hair removal treatment session. At this appointment, your provider will provide you with goggles to protect your eyes from the laser beam and may apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment site. Your provider will then apply the handpiece to the treatment area, using either light energy or radiofrequency to penetrate your skin and remove the hair. Following your treatment, your provider will educate you on the aftercare instructions and answer any questions you may have.

How do I prepare for my laser hair removal treatment?

Your provider will go over detailed instructions for both pre- and post-treatment preparation with you at your initial consultation. Some general guidelines to follow are:

  • Limit exposure to the sun both before and after treatment and be sure to apply a high-quality, SPF30 or higher sunscreen.
  • Avoid other hair removal methods such as waxing or plucking for at least four weeks prior to your appointment.
  • Avoid self-tanning products as your provider will need to be able to work based on your natural skin tone.
  • Avoid blood-thinning medications, such as aspirin, before and after your treatment.
  • Shaving is encouraged! We recommend trimming or shaving your treatment area the day prior to your appointment. Removing surface hairs allows us to avoid damaging your skin by burning excess hair while leaving the hair shaft intact below the surface.

How many laser hair removal appointments will I need?

We currently offer laser hair removal packages that include six treatment sessions to ensure satisfactory results. The intervals at which these treatments are spaced will depend on the treatment location, and your provider will discuss this with you following your first treatment.

As a general rule, in areas where the hair grows quickly, such as your chin or upper lip, you may have treatments spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart. For areas with slow regrowth, such as your back or legs, your provider may advise you to return every 12 to 16 weeks.

When will I see results from laser hair removal treatments?

Your hair will not fall out immediately following the procedure, but rather over a period of days. We recommend repeated sessions as treatment is most effective during the new growth stage of your hair follicles. The results of laser hair removal are not universal and depend greatly on your individual body.

How much does laser hair removal cost?

The cost of laser hair removal varies by patient and depends on the size of the treatment area and the number of sessions you require to see satisfactory results. Currently, we offer treatment packages that include six sessions, which you can view through our services menu. At your initial consultation, your provider will discuss your options and work with you to create a plan that will yield maximum results. They will also discuss costs and payment options and answer any additional questions you may have.
